in the north bay. news chopper 2 is over a citibank. this bank was robbed before 5:00 p.m. tonight. on third street, not far from highway 101. officers are inside searching it as well as the surrounding area. witnesses say the robber ran away with cash. a school was locked down after reports the suspect ran into a creek near a school. the students have been allowed to leave the building. we are stilling in contact with police and we will update you on new information. >>> police are investigating a shooting that left a 26-year- old man dead. it happened around 10:30 a.m. this morning. southgate elementary school and martin luther elementary school were both on lock down. the victim has been identified who was visiting from arkansas. police say no arrests have been made. >>> police say it appear as grandmother was struck and killed by a stray bullet. she was walking home from a store just before 7:00 p.m. last night when she was hot and killed. a clerk says she heard the gun shots and then people ran for cover. >> i thought they were trying to kill him. i thought they were going to shoot ever

had just robbed a bank, when he shot him. that was november 17th of last year. smith is charged with murder. the arraignment was rescheduled for february 15th. prosecutors said they will decide by then whether to seek the death penalty. >>> fatal stabbing of a teenager two years ago. newark police announced the arrest of tovar and daniel la guzman of newark and daniel howard of fremont in the killing of justice. he was stabbed in broad daylight on september 15th, 2010. it happened a quarter mile from newark high school. it was retaliation for a fist fight. they were arrested monday and booked into the santa rita jail. >>> they have arrested a man on dui charges after he slammed his puck pickup truck into a building. the crash happened at 3:30 at the villa apartments near east taylor street not far from wattson park. the truck hit one room where a 8-year-old boy was sleeping and another where the truck broke a crib had half and knocked a 2-year-old girl onto the floor. >> i tried to get out of there. i wasn't going to let them go. i jumped over and there is a bunch of power cords

firefighters to the hospital. ktvu's rob roth is here and tells us it happened even though the firefighters did everything they were supposed to do. rob? >> reporter: frank, the fire engine involved in yesterday's accident is now out of service. you can see the dent in the bumper that was struck by an suv. that sent four to the hospital, three of them firefighters. >> reporter: the accident happened yesterday, firefighters responded to a car collision on highway 24. the cars were on the shoulder and the firefighters followed protocol. >> we have a procedure that requires them to park the engine at an angle to protect the scene. >> reporter: officials say ideally they would have had a second engine but with so many 911 calls the next closest engine responded to another emergency. >> we were extremely busy yesterday and we didn't have two engines for this emergency. >> reporter: 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning a car clipped the back of the fire truck, moments later a suv strucked the fire -- struck the fire engine. >> we will look at this incident and we will try to identify areas that we can improve

in a operation they have been working on for weeks. rob is there now where the man who runs that grow operation says police have it all wrong, rob? >> frank, behind this gate is a warehouse and police say inside that warehouse was a marijuana growing operation. now about 20 officers from oakland's crime reduction unit this morning raided the warehouse on edge water drive near oakland airport. they bagged marijuana plants they is a produced 20 to 30 pounds of pot a month or 700 plants. police also recovered approximately $40,000 in cash and 2 starter pistols. police arrested two men, one of them 63 years old. late this afternoon, a long time marijuana activist came by. he says he is the one running the operation. and he says they shut off the power and he went inside and saw the stems of the plant had been cut. he was trying to do the right thing and thought he has the right permits to run an operation for medical marijuana but police say he did not have the right permits in place. now that man says he plans on failing out the two men that have been arrested and he plans to call his lawyer. repo

the city bank on third street was robbed just before 5:00. the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, but tonight we have just received this surveillance photo of the suspect. the man there in the road hoodie is described as white in his 20s about 5'8" inches tall with a shaved head and tatoos on his hands, head and neck. >> police say that a hit and run driver killed a man out whacking his dog this morning. the accident happened at sutor and louisiana lose streets. that's where responders found the 644-year-old victim still holding his dead dog's leash. so far they have not released his name while they notify his family. no description of a suspect vehicle. >> a man on a dirt bike was struck and killed by an amtrak train. this have happened just after 11:30 between big break and the accident appears to have been an accident. the train had just left oakland and there were 92 passengers at the time. no one was injured. in oakland, at least two pedestrians were hurt in a car crash near foothill boulevard this afternoon. one of the people was pinned under a car following the cra

.s. bank robbed in san leandro and police arrived just moments after he escaped. it happens tuesday evening just off east 14th street. a couple blocks from davis street. at about 4:00 in the afternoon a man in his 20s wearing a dark jacket and hooded sweatshirt walked into the bank handed the teller a note demanding money. >>> police need your help identifying a man suspected of robbing another u.s. bank about noon yesterday. this man seen in the surveillance video in an orange beanie and dark jacket demanded money from the teller. he did not show a weapon. suspect appears to be between 25-35 years old. and about 5'9"-6 feet tall. we are also learning about what led up to the shooting deaths of two teenage girls in oakland. the two suspects 18-year-old dee anita powell and antonio edwards were both arraigned in court. 15-year-old re kill and bobby were sitting with the suspects in a car before they were gunned down near brookdale park. the men had apparently gotten into an argument with the two teenagers. investigators say more than 30 rounds were fired. >>> your time is 6:18. another redwo

was robbed. this happened in a pretty busy shopping time. brian flores is live to tell us where the woman was when she was targeted. >> reporter: good morning. we're live at the sun valley mall. at this hour, concord police are looking for an armed robbery suspect that tried to take items from a woman here in front of the macy's parking lot at the mall. still very limited details. from what we understand, the robbery happened at around 7:30 last night. it's being reported that the woman was just arriving here at the mall when the robber pointed something. it's still not clear whether it was a gun or not, but he pointed it on the back of her head and demanded that she give him all of her money. she didn't have cash. she gave him her driver's license and credit cards. the robber pushed her to the ground and ran off into what is described as an older model light-colored small car. the woman ran into the macy's and called police. still very limited details as we mentioned on the suspect air -- suspect's car and his description. we have calls in to them. shoppers are warned to be very vigilant

are searching for home-invasion robbers who tied up and robbed people in the sunset district -- in a sunset district home in san francisco. brian flores is there now with how it -- with how this happen and how the victims are doing. >> reporter: we're live here on the 1600 block of sloat boulevard. we've been here since 5:00 this morning. still a very active scene at this home where a home invasion robbery happened in the early part of this morning. we talked with a resident of the house here. we presume he's the homeowner. we talked to him about an hour ago. he's the father with two adult kids. he also lives here with his wife and grandmother. according to san francisco police and the resident, this robbery happened at around 2:00 or 3:00 this morning. from what we understand, the father was watching tv in the home while his wife was getting ready for work, when three masked robbers entered the home through a side window. that's according to san francisco police. the resident said they were armed and told the family to get on the floor while the robbers tied them up with electrical tape.
